First of all… don’t worry! It happens a lot and it certainly is very fixable. And we agree that it can be really annoying especially when you have bought it recently. But let’s get to the point, shall we?

Potential Solutions

Now, there are several solutions you can and should try before going to a professional or your carrier service. Though if your phone is damaged, that would most likely be fixed by a technician.

Solution #1 – Make sure you are trying to turn it on properly

A lot of times, it is best to make sure there is not a very simple issue. So, try pressing the power button a few times and see if something happens. This sounds simple, but this has actually worked for a lot of users. If you have different unlocking or turning on options, please make sure to abide by them properly


If nothing works, then, let’s move on…

Solution #2 – Perform a soft reset or a forced reboot

If you can’t turn on the phone properly and the screen remains black, you can try doing a soft reset or a forced reboot. This helps you make sure that there are not minor issues in the softwares or the apps installed in your phone. Unlike most other mobile phones, galaxy s8 comes with a non-removable battery which makes things a little bit different for us. Here’s what you need to do:


Hold down the volume down and power button together for around 10 seconds. The Samsung logo should show up and the system will take a few moments to boot itself completely. Try turning on the phone and if it works, HOORAY!


If nothing happens, you should try the next potential solution:

Solution #3 – Charge the galaxy s8 properly

When I say properly, I mean that you need to make sure where the problem is coming from. You need to check the following things:


  • USB cable/charging cable
  • Charger/adapter
  • Power outlet/socket


It’s obviously best if you are using the charging cable and adapter that came up in the box with the phone. If you’re using some other USB cable and/or adapter, you need to make sure it’s working properly. To test if the cable and/or the adapter is working fine, test it using another Samsung phone if you can.


If everything looks good on the adapter and cable side, go to the power socket and see if the socket is rusty or dusty. Sometimes, you just have to clean up those ports using a can of compressed air. Be careful when you’re working with the power outlet as it can not only harm you but it can also get damaged.


Also, don’t give up on the phone so easily. Sometimes, it takes time to actually show that it is charging. So charge for atleast 5 minutes or so and the charging sign should show up on the screen. You should also look for the LED lights. If they are working, it means that the battery is charging. If your phone is not showing any LED light at all, it’s either not charging or the LED light is simply not working or is turned off. In that case, charge for at least 30 minutes and see if the back is heating up or not.


If nothing happens, the main problem most likely lies in the port, battery or some hardware. But there are other solutions we can try:

Solution #4 – Boot in safe mode

This method is for dealing with apps in the phone that might be the potential cause of the problem. So to get the phone in Safe Mode:


  1. Your screen should be off at this time. If it’s not, then you have to turn it off for this mode.
  2. Press the power button and hold it until you see the Samsung logo on the screen.
  3. Once the logo appears, release the power button and press the Volume down button untill the device finishes restarting.
  4. After the restart is done, safe mode will appear on the bottom left corner of the screen.

At this moment, you should start deleting third-party apps that you installed before this issue and do this until the issue this fixed.


If nothing happens, you should try the Recovery Mode

Solution #5 – Recovery Mode

This is the last thing you can do to make sure it’s not the software that causing the problem.


  1. Start by Press and hold the Power Button, Bixby Button, and the Volume Up key at the same time, until the phone vibrates. The Bixby button should be at the left edge of your Galaxy s8, near the Volume buttons.
  2. Once the phone vibration, release the Power button but keep the other two buttons pressed
  3. You should now see the Android Recovery screen
  4. Release all keys
  5. Using the volume keys, select the Clear Cache Partition option and confirm your choice using the Power button. Now, wait for a few moments, until the phone restarts

What Next?

We really hope one of these solutions work for you. If none of the solution work, then you should probably get your phone screen checked. At this point, it is highly unlikely that there is a software glitch so try contacting Samsung and ask them for help. And if nothing works even after you get the screen checked, it’s time you get a new phone because there is a hardware problem now.
